Inter-Con Bargaining Update #03
Important Update from Your Elected Bargaining Team
Our actions and our solidarity are working! After three days of bargaining focused on non -economics—basically the protections and work rules we want in our contract—we wanted to share some good news!
We have reached tentative agreements on almost all our top priorities:
Eliminating the star system: It was confusing and at times unfair; now we will have a points-based system only. You will have the right to see your points at any time.
Progressive discipline: You can contest discipline you receive through a fair process—no more threats to be fired.
Non-Union managers must speak in a respectful manner to employees.
Access to basic health and safety equipment at our sites like water, gloves, and masks
Paid time for new employees to learn about their rights with our Union
A system for job postings and vacancies: Openings will be filled in seniority order by current Officers
And much more!
WHAT’S NEXT?
Now we have moved our focus to our top economic priorities:
Wage increases
More Paid Time Off
Access to affordable healthcare
We are fighting for a wage increase in July and regular wage increases every year after that to help us keep up with the cost of living .
We are fighting to go from the current one bank of time off Officers have—approximately 40 hours we have to use for when we are sick and when we want a day off—to THREE banks of time: vacation, sick leave, and paid time off days (PTO). Every Officer should have the right to vacation time, sick time and days that they can use how they want
We are fighting for affordable healthcare. The Inter-Con Plan is too expensive, and we need healthcare benefits that are affordable and offer quality care.
What is the company offering?
Nothing yet. So far, we have only heard that there will not be another wage increase this year and that they are still preparing a counteroffer.
We have requested additional bargaining dates with the company so that we can continue to push for the fair contract we deserve. Now is the time to stay united. We will update everyone as soon as we have our next bargaining date secured.
