Inter-Con Bargaining Update #02

Our elected bargaining team met with Inter-Con on May 16. Our focus for this meeting were our non-economic priorities. Non-economic priorities are the work rules and protections that we want in our contract that impact our day to day to work at the County.

We were able to make progress on a lot of important issues:

  • Ensuring that Officers will be able to learn about their Union and benefits on paid time when they start

  • Winning a grievance and arbitration procedure so that if you are written up, or receive a discipline about something that you disagree with, you have the right to contest that discipline and have union representation

  • Progressive Discipline: Ensuring that you are no longer an at will Employee and that you will have the ability to receive a warning, before it is placed in your file, and contest that warning

  • Inter-Con supervisors must ensure that the discipline policy is consistently enforced

  • That Inter-Con managers will speak with employees in a respectful and professional manner

  • Protections around Severe Weather Events

  • And much more!

We still are focused on winning important protections around the point system and the assigning of shifts.

What’s Next?

We will be introducing our economic proposals at our next session on June 4 and 5.

It is more important then ever that we take the actions we need to win a strong first contract that has improvements on our top priorities: more Paid Time Off, wage increase, affordable healthcare and respect. That means we need to make sure that Multnomah County invests more money into the contract with Inter-Con in the County budget, which will be approved on June 7.

How to take action:

  1. Send an email!
An email went out with an easy action—by filling out the action link you can send an email to Multnomah County Commissioners asking them to invest the money that is needed to win a strong contract. Once you take action, send the link to at least 2 friends, family, or co workers so we can get as many emails into County Commissioners as possible.

  2. Purple up at your worksite!
