PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Bargaining Update #03

UNITY IS OUR POWER TO WIN

Your elected bargaining team met with management for the third time on Tuesday, July 29. The team worked on and presented a number of proposals focused on the priority of reaching agreements around new hospitals and managing growth and change.

Growing Together

Your team made it clear that SEIU members want to support PeaceHealth’s plans to grow in Lane County by constructing new Rehab and Behavioral Health hospitals and made it clear we can only do this if workers continue to be covered by the contract and have protections in the process. The proposals included:

Three Hospitals, ONE Contract:

Any new hospitals or facilities that PeaceHealth opens in Lane County should be covered by the current contract. If they aren’t, these new locations could pay workers less than Sacred Heart and weaken your contract. Extending the contract to include the new hospitals would protect all employees and make sure everyone benefits from PeaceHealth’s growth.

Your team also proposed greater protections for current workers including:

  • Stronger protections against subcontracting.

  • Ensuring that in the event of a sale, merger or transfer of Sacred Heart that the contract would remain in force.

  • Longer timelines and stronger rights for members in the layoff and department restructure process.

  • Organizing rights to ensure a fair process for non-union PeaceHealth workers to join the union.

SEIU members in Longview are also bargaining with PeaceHealth and your team made it clear that SEIU members at PeaceHealth are united and will work together to ensure the best contract for everyone and push for change at the local and system level.

Up Next:

At our next bargaining session, the team will present our proposals on priority issues including wages, healthcare, and honoring the diverse caregivers and patients in the communities we serve. To win a strong contract it will take all PeaceHealth members standing united and taking action together.

Here is what you can do to help win a strong contract:
