MWMC · Bargaining Update 3

Session #3: Tensions run high

At our third negotiation series, tensions were high at the table.

We gave management our economic proposals more than two weeks ago. On Wednesday, they came back saying, “We are working with a bowl, not a bucket of money,” and hinted that their counterproposal will be insulting.

On Thursday, when we raised our concerns about this, management’s lawyer lost his cool and stormed out of the room.

Robert Bigbee, Plant Operations and Maintenance and Bargaining Team Member, says: “Your bargaining team insisted on being respected, and management responded by walking out. We will not back down. We will continue to fight for our members, our union and our contract, and we will keep pushing for the betterment of all.”

Progress at the table

Later in the day, we were able to come back together and made progress. We have reached Tentative Agreements (TAs) on:

  • Article 1: Purpose of Agreement
  • Article 8: Discipline and Discharge
  • Article 21: Rest Period Daily
  • Article 28: Work in a Higher Class
  • Pandemic Policy
