Legacy Realigned: Bargaining Update 7
ONE LEGACY, TWO STANDARDS
At Emanuel, Legacy brought a punishment package: lose overtime for a FULL YEAR if you’re on a corrective action, lose the quality control protection that shields EVS workers, and lose overtime on hours 36 through 40 on a 36-hour schedule. At Good Samaritan, the only takeaway is overtime on hours 36 through 40 on a 36-hour schedule. Same employer. Same table. Two sets of rules. And this is a familiar story.
That’s why in 2021, we walked away with a contract that equalized the pay and the working conditions across the Emanuel, Good Sam, Randall and Unity Hospitals.
85 DAYS WITHOUT A CONTRACT!!!
On September 4, 10, 17 & 18 we met with Legacy expecting real movement. Instead, management didn’t come back with any substantial proposals and continues to drag out the process. While Legacy stalls, your bargaining team continues to push for answers and hold management accountable on key Articles such as Discipline & Discharge, Insurance & Job Description.
Then they told us the worst part: Legacy will not give us a wage counterproposal until after October 2. Their current wage proposal gives some members a raise as little as 9 cents!
AFTER 14 SESSIONS OF BARGAINING WITH LITTLE PROGRESS, WE TOOK ACTION!
We hit the picket line on Monday, September 14, along with our union siblings AFSCME and ONA to send Legacy a clear message: While Legacy is stalling, we’re organizing! WE ARE UNITED! AND WE ARE NOT BACKING DOWN!
On September 22 & 23, we met with management, but we still have not received movement on reasonable wages or an agreement on overtime per their takeaways, and we continue to notice a difference at the bargaining table when Emanuel is at the table vs when Good Sam is at the table. We come to the table in good faith, and we expect the same from Legacy!
We already won racial equity at this table once. We are not giving it back. One Legacy, one standard, equal respect at every worksite!
