We overwhelmingly voted YES to ratify historic contract with Kaiser Permanente  

Our contract ratification date Is October 26, 2023.

Here’s a reminder of some of the huge changes that will be implemented with our new contract:

  • Job Protections 

    • Job Security and Protections from Outsourcing: Protection against outsourcing and subcontracting for all of us, including Revenue Cycle, Laboratory, Virtual Visits by MAs and LPNs and Call Centers extended for the term of the contract. 

  • Fair Pay 

    • 21% Raise for ALL!

      • 6% this October 

      • 5% next October 

      • And another 5% in 2025 and 2026

        This is the biggest raise in the history of our partnership with Kaiser! 

    • $1,500 Bonus for Everyone! 90 days after all regions ratify the National Agreement. 

  • Keep Those Benefits 

    • Healthcare and RX costs: Protected! All co-pays stay the same low cost and no increases to premiums.  

    • Retiree Perks: Protected our pension, TSA match and improved retiree health- it's even better now, with a Health Reimbursement Account bump to $2,500 for new retirees from 2024 forward.

  • Performance Bonuses (PSP) 

    • Get Paid More When Kaiser Does Well!

      • 2023 PSP payout in March 2024: Full time SEIU 49 members will get at least $1,500

      • For the 2024 plan year we can earn up to $1,200 even if Kaiser fails to meet its operating margin and up to $2,800 if Kaiser meets its operating margin. 

      • Up to a whopping $3,750 if Kaiser exceeds its operating margin! 

  • Investing in Us 

    • Sick of Being Short-Staffed? We've got a whole plan to tackle it with a full menu of initiatives to invest in the workforce.

    And There's More! 

    • New Pay Differentials: Weekend, training, and replacement pool. 

    • Bigger Differentials: Longevity, shift, and lead differentials are going up! 


When do we get our raises?

The first step was voting yes for our contract. The 6% across-the-board raise we all get is effective as of October 1 (so we will get some retro pay). We'll let everyone know when we get the date we will see it in our paychecks.   

Some other raises—like the increases to MA, LPN, and DA scales—are effective about 120 days after our ratification, so close to the end of February. When we nail down the dates with Kaiser management, we will let you know.   

Huge shout out to our elected Bargaining Team who put a winning plan into action! 

Our powerful 3-day strike showed Kaiser Executives that we are valuable. This is what happens when we stand together. We've fought hard for a contract, and it shows. Let's keep pushing for an even brighter future!
