YOUR BARGAINING TEAM UPDATE
Your bargaining team continues to present our priorities to management. Unfortunately, we remain far apart on wages, healthcare, and other key issues — and management continues to propose takeaways:
Management’s Proposal: Remove “quarterly” from retirement payments
Impact: Management could not say when payments would be made to your account. Instead of your money earning interest in your retirement account, the employer would earn and keep that interest.Management’s Proposal: On-call/standby would no longer be eligible for shift differential
Impact: Management confirmed that currently, if you are called in during an evening or night shift, you receive the shift differential. Their proposal would deny you the same differential your peers working beside you receive.Management’s Proposal: Remove the cap on health insurance costs
Impact: Improving health insurance costs is one of our top priorities. Removing the cap would allow the employer to raise costs as much as they choose — potentially making it impossible for healthcare workers to afford the care they provide every day.Management’s Proposal: Across-the-board (ATB) wage increases of 4%, 3.5%, and 2.75% for all employees, with market adjustments for a small number of classifications that are 5% or more behind other Samaritan facilities.
Impact: These low across-the-board increases will keep us behind other Samaritan hospitals and won't address the cost of living we face on the coast.
The fight for a fair contract continues. We are making progress, but we remain far apart on wages, insurance, and differentials.
