Samaritan • Bargaining Update 7 & 8

SEIU Samaritan United

We sent a strong message that we are united and delivered scrolls with hundreds of signatures at GSRMC, Albany, and Lebanon!

GSRMC caregivers, some in scrubs, raise their fists in a hallway beside a scroll of petition signatures.

Samaritan Albany General Update

Samaritan has yet to say yes to what matters to us

What we needSamaritan’s answer
Better wages that keep up with the cost of living No
Better healthcare benefits No
Improved PTO benefits No
Safer workplace No
Denis Ellrodt, CNA, three years at AGH, says: “When we have the right staffing to give the care we want, it means we are able to improve patient satisfaction. Many of us are working overtime just to make ends meet and we need much higher pay and differentials. I worked 21 out of 31 days this month so I can afford things I need, and it is exhausting.”
Kelli Pape, CNA Unit Aide, twenty years at AGH, says: “I come into work often to help my team and patients, and I am told Samaritan appreciates us. We need to see it in higher paychecks. Electric bills and gas have skyrocketed, and 3.25%, 2.75% and 2.5% raises over 3 years won’t cover how much my bills have gone up.”

GSRMC Tech Update

We delivered our petition!

We presented our bargaining priorities petition to management. Here is where things stand after bargaining on Friday, October 23.

Sara Zahn, Surgical Tech, GSRMC, says: “We work hard to take care of our patients and our families, and we should be able to take care of both without relying on overtime to pay our bills.”

We have made progress

We have a shared interest in:

  • Setting orphan call to 3x the contractual rate.
  • Improvements to tiered call agreements for Surgical Techs.
  • Shift differentials to be paid on callback hours.

We are still far apart on economics

Our proposalManagement’s proposal
Wages that keep up with the market 3.5%, 2.25%, 2.25% with some selectives
Retro pay to contract expiration No retro
Consecutive day premium pay for working more than 5 days in a row No. Overtime earned after 40 hours in a week
Increases to call pay No increase to call pay
Increase PTO accrual No increase to PTO accrual and reduce the cap to 560 hours
2x pay for short notice of less than 48 hours 3 hours pay for less than 24 hours notice
Bargain changes to insurance SHS will discuss the changes
