Important Update for Star Employees

As most of you have heard, Star was acquired by Allied Universal Services (AUS). This transition is set to take place on 12/8/2023. Last week there were a series of onboarding meetings for Officers. If you were not able to attend and need to onboard with AUS, please contact portlandhr@aus.com

As Union Officers you have protections during this transition that include:

  • Making sure your union seniority date is carried over to AUS

  • Making sure that your Paid Time Off, and Sick time is carried over to AUS and that any accrued vacation time is cashed out

  • Making sure that there is no disruption or changes to your health and welfare benefits

  • Making sure there is no disruption or changes to your Union Membership

We have been working hard to make sure there is a smooth plan for this, but our Union is not in control of all parts of this process. We want to provide an update about what we believe to be happening as part of this transition.

  • Star Officers will migrate to AUS on Friday, December 8, 2023.

  • Your Union Seniority date with Star will carry over to AUS.

  • Paid Time Off: If you have any vacation on the books with Star, this will be carried over. Your Paid Time Off and Sick time will carry over to AUS. We have on file your accrued amounts, so if after the transition you feel that you are missing time, please reach out to mrc@seiu49.org.

  • Dues:

    • While AUS and Star are covered under the same dues structure with SEIU Local 49, the way they take dues out is slightly different. Star usually takes out your union dues in two separate paychecks. AUS looks at your hours from the month before and then takes out dues on one paycheck. AUS pays weekly as well.

    • Your union dues for December will be taken out by Star on the 11th and 22nd of December. In January, your union dues will come out the third paycheck of the month, and it will be your full dues amount (not your dues amount broken into two paychecks). If you do not see your dues come out of your check, please contact mrc@seiu49.org.

  • Health and Welfare: You are covered under the same union healthcare with AUS. AUS is going to be asking that Star Employees fill out new healthcare enrollment as part of open enrollment. If you have any issues with health and welfare reach out to portlandhr@aus.com. If they do not address the issue, contact mrc@seiu49.org.

  • There will be no impact to your Union Membership as part of this transition. If you have any questions or a question about your contract and rights please contact mrc@seiu49.org We will be in touch with Officers in the New Year as we look to gather input for our upcoming negotiations for our new contract. Our current contract expires on June 30th, 2024.
