In the midst of a pandemic, healthcare workers are among the most essential members of our community--and they deserve good, stable jobs with affordable benefits and fair pay.

That's why it's outrageous that management at our community hospital, McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, has announced plans to outsource housekeepers and linen and food service workers. These frontline heroes keep our hospital clean and safe, and take great care in providing proper nutrition to patients. In addition, workers have alleged that management is interfering with workers' rights by committing unfair labor practices.

Housekeepers and linen and dietary workers are critical to preventing the spread of infection and ensuring patients' nutrition needs are being met, and they should be part of the team of staff employed by the hospital. Outsourcing those jobs to outside contractors takes good jobs out of our community, and it is grossly unfair to the dedicated hospital workers who have put their lives on the line to provide great patient care.

McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center is one of only two Oregon for-profit hospitals and is owned by Tennessee-based corporation Quorum Health Corp. Quorum Health Corp received a total of $19 million in CARES Act funding, with McKenzie-Willamette receiving $4.5 million of these bailout funds. There's no reason the hospital with these resources should be looking to hire an outside company to manage these critical functions that directly impact patient care.

Send a message to McKenzie-Willamette Chief Operating Officer Jim Aberle using this form to demand that management immediately stop their unfair labor practices, and stop their plans to outsource workers to keep good jobs in our hospital and in our community!
