• Kaiser Security Officers Vote Overwhelmingly to Ratify First-Ever Union Contract
  Security officers with SEIU United Service Workers West who protect Kaiser Permanente hospitals nationwide voted overwhelmingly today to ratify their first-ever union contract. The three year contract with private security company Securitas—which is contracted by Kaiser to protect its facilities—includes family healthcare and higher wages for the 2,000 officers that are stationed at Kaiser facilities in California and across the nation. Of the 2,000 nationwide, 1,600 guard facilities in California.

• The Union Difference
  Griselda Rauda has worked at the Kaiser Building for the past 8 years.  As a janitor with ABM Janitorial Services and SEIU 49 member, Griselda has always taken pride in her work; dedicating herself to excellence in the workplace.
  
  In January of this year, Griselda suffered an injury while on the job.  As a result of this injury, she was fired by ABM over the phone.   
  
  Working with Union representation,  Griselda filed a grievance and effectively stated her case.  It was determined ABM did not go through a proper investigation process and as such she was reinstated at work.   Furthermore, she received back pay for the wages she lost while not working.
  
  “I feel very fortunate because I got my job back and received back pay,” said Griselda.  “All of this wouldn’t have happened without a strong Union.”
