Find your union steward

If you have a question about your union contract or an issue at work, contact your worksite steward. Stewards are workers like you, who have been elected by their co-workers. Stewards volunteer their time to help do the following:

* Keep everyone informed about what’s happening with our union.
* Represent co-workers with workplace issues or problems.
* Keep our union strong by recruiting support in our community and in politics, and building strength in our industry by helping other workers join our union.

Stewards are the foundation of our union and our first line of response when we’re defending the hard-won rights in our union contract. It is a good idea to find and introduce yourself to your steward now — instead of waiting until you have a problem on the job. Visit your worksite page to find contact information for stewards at your worksite.

If you can't reach your steward, you can visit the main page for your employer to look for stewards at another worksite or find the chief steward for your company / employer. If you are unable to contact any steward, call the SEIU Local 49 job issue hotline: 1.800.955.3352, ext. 223.

If there are no stewards at your worksite, find you how you can become a steward.

Especially for Kaiser Stewards

All Kaiser steward positions come up for re-election in February of the even numbered years (Next elections February 2010). Steward elections are not a contest; you can vote for everyone on the ballot. However, if you are not currently a steward, you can run to become a new steward at any time.

For Stewards

As front-line leaders at the worksite, SEIU stewards wear many hats. They are problem solvers, educators, and communicators. And, most importantly, they are organizers. This on-line steward guide outlines stewards' various duties and responsibilities in the workplace.
