Kaiser Education Fund Benefits

SEIU Members who work for Kaiser Permanente are elegible for benefits from two different Education funds: one maintained by Kaiser and SEIU Local 49 [at left, below], and one maintained by Kaiser and SEIU UHW [United Health Care Workers West — the SEIU California Health Care Workers Local] — details at right, below:

SEIU Local 49 members at Kaiser with six months of continuous service are eligible for Education Fund benefits, which include:

Continuing Education, Professional Development, and Career Development:
• Training and Upgrading Skills
Apprenticeship Programs
Certification Upgrade Training (not testing)
Personal/Professional Growth
Seminars/Workshops
Educational Opportunities

Retraining for injured workers covered by
   Workers' Comp or other insurance
Retraining as part of RIF

Certification (except job-related CEU
   classes with proof of attendance)
Repayment of Student Loans

     opportunities for health care workers.

     workers.

     standard of quality care.

Current programs offered (
Spring 2008)

• 10 Medical Coder Positions
This class provides 5 weeks of medical coding training. If you pass the course, you will be placed in a position. You have 18 months to become certified. Course begins May 5, 2008. Call Shellee for more information: 503.238.5945.

• Keyboarding & Basic Computers

The Education trust also offers a stipend program. The fund will pay up to 8 hours of your weekly wages while you are in a two-year program such as RN, Rad. Tech, Medical Coding, Respiratory Therapy, etc, to free up time for you to attend classes and study. To apply for this stipend, visit our website: www.seiu-uhweduc.org.
