Especially for Kaiser Stewards
Have you thanked your steward lately?
Stewards form the backbone of our union, protecting everyone’s rights and helping educate people about our union contract. We rely on stewards for guiding changes in SEIU Local 49.
Don’t have a steward? Want to help strengthen your voice at work? Now’s your chance to step up and become a steward.
All Kaiser steward positions come up for re-election in February of the even numbered years (Next elections February 2010). Steward elections are not a contest; you can vote for everyone on the ballot. However, if you are not currently a steward, you can run to become a new steward at any time.
Chief Stewards are elected from the group of stewards. They serve a two-year term and are elected every odd-numbered year.
You need to complete the following paid classes before being elected as a steward. Arrange to attend through your supervisor:
• Basic Steward Training: call SEIU Local 49 at 503.236.4949 to sign up; see calendar for upcoming training dates
• Union Partnership Representative training: Sign up with KP Learn
• Interest Based Problem Solving: Sign up with KP Learn.
• Partnership Orientation: Sign up with KP Learn.
Check KP Learn to make sure you’ve had your classes. If not, talk to your supervisor, and get signed up.
You must also sign the
Steward Leadership Pledge
If you have a problem with the representation provided to you by a steward, you can ask the Steward Oversight Committee to look into the matter. They are an elected group of Kaiser leaders who are committed to mentoring and developing our stewards. To get in touch with the SOC, contact SEIU Local 49 at 503.236.4949.
