Recently, the Local 49 Executive Board passed a resolution supporting the Longshore Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 21 in their fight with international corporate conglomerate EGT. EGT is waging an unprecedented attack against the ILWU’s jurisdiction in Longview Washington. The EGT is waging this attack, in part, because the ILWU remains one of this nation’s strongest unions. Consequently, the outcome of this struggle could have an effect on the union movement’s ability to defend good family wage jobs for years to come.
